Concerns About the Use of Classroom Technology

Although classroom technology is a welcome innovation, it presents some serious concerns that the school needs to be aware of before starting to use it.
Firstly, the cost of the equipment is sky high. In most cases, the budget for technology is not really large and cannot support equipping a school with all the necessary equipment. There is the possibility of sponsorship or grants but it is not guaranteed that a school qualifies for funding.
Secondly, this technology may be time wasting. As it is, teachers find it difficult to cope with their work load. Introducing technology means there is extra work to do. The teacher has to know how to use it and then include it in the curriculum. If the teacher tries to incorporate the technology without fully understanding it, it will create confusion for the students as well as the teacher.
Thirdly, the internet may not be an impeccable source of information. Quality may not be maintained, information may be incorrect or biased to one point of view. Moreover, it becomes necessary for the teacher to carry out research and recommend websites to student. This creates problems for teachers. It gives them extra work as they need to research and go over the student's work.
Fourthly, it is now easier to cheat than before. Students can easily share answers during a test or exam. This is done through sending instant messages and emails. Online assessments are even worse as students can open up websites to obtain answers.
Lastly, the contents of an assignment or research paper may not be original. Plagiarism is a major concern. Teachers face difficulties in assessing whether the work is plagiarized or not. What's more students can either buy research papers online or pay someone to do it for them.
